Miss Show Girl 2017 Winner - Marinka Zanetich

Cairns Miss Showgirl 2017

Marinka Zanetich

With what started as a simple quest for self-confidence, I've conquered my fear of public speaking, met some incredible people, learnt about Australia's most important industry, travelled Queensland (and I am heading to Las Vegas in November) and made friends for life.

I was ecstatic when I was named the Cairns Miss Show Girl for 2017 and I loved my three full days and nights at the Cairns Show this year.

Accompanied by the other Cairns Show Girls, we attended every event and met as many people as we possibly could.

After competing in Charters Towers, I took on the North Queensland Sub-Chamber Miss Show Girl title and spent a few of my weeks and weekends visiting shows around North Queensland.

And then I blinked and it was time to pack my bags for the Ekka.

We had the opportunity to visit Government House, we toured the Queensland Country Life and their printing facilities, we spent time with the members of the Royal National Association and my personal favourite, Parliament House.

I don't think that there are too many times in life when you are pushed into a room with ten other girls from around Queensland who are so similar-minded! Like me, all of the girls were so passionate about their regions and Agricultural Shows.

The Awards introduced me to so many people, ideas and industries that I otherwise would not have been exposed to and I have been given opportunities to push myself out of my comfort zone again and again; it has been nothing less than amazing.

I was so pleased to be named Runner-Up for the Queensland Country Life Miss Show Girl Awards in Brisbane and I am so excited to be heading to Las Vegas in November for the International

Association of Fairs and Expositions Convention. (I.A.F.E.C.)

From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to each and every person who played a part in my journey as Miss Show Girl, I've had a lot of mentoring, support and encouragement and I definitely wouldn't be where I am without the support of the Cairns Show, sponsors and volunteers.
